CALIFORNIA – The Angelo State women's tennis team got off to a great start on their West Coast trip as they defeated Daemen College and Biola University on Tuesday.
Against Daemen, the Belles dominated. The duos of Valentina Gonzalez and Zoe Gubbels, Lucie Maitrot and Maria Delgadillo, and Yasmine Ansari and Melanie Dreux all won 6-0 to secure the doubles point for the Belles. In singles, Valentina Gonzalez won 6-3, 6-2, Maria Delgadillo won 6-1, 6-1, Zoe Gubbels won 6-1, 6-0, Lucie Maitrot won 6-0, 6-0, Andrea Ramic won 6-2, 6-0, and Melanie Dreux won 6-0, 6-0 as the Belles coasted to a 7-0 victory.
Later in the day ASU defeated Biola 4-0. The doubles team of Valentina Gonzalez and Ena Ovcina lost 6-4, but the duo of Zoe Gubbels and Virginie Becht won 6-1 and the duo of Maria Delgadillo and Lucie Maitrot won 6-4 to win the doubles point. In singles, Ena Ovcina won 6-2, 6-2, Zoe Gubbels won 6-0, 6-1, and Lucie Maitrot won 6-0, 6-2. All other matches were in progress.
The Belles will be in action again tomorrow as they take on Azusa Pacific.
