SAN ANGELO – Mallory Blauser supplied 11 kills,
Abbie Lynn added 10 more with a .474 attacking percentage and four players recorded double-digit dig performances to lead the Angelo State volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-16) Lone Star Conference win over Midwestern State on Saturday at the Junell Center.
The Belles (14-5, 8-4 LSC) earned their second straight conference sweep after also earning a straight-sets win over Cameron on Friday and improved to 8-1 on their home court with the victories. ASU has now swept eight matches this season, including six in LSC play.
"This weekend can be used to remind us of the team that we really can be," ASU junior captain
Katie MacLeay said. "It's awesome to see us playing well and executing as a team again. That's what Belle Volleyball is and it's what we need to start doing consistently throughout the rest of the season. We have tough matches ahead of us, but if we're able to limit the errors on our side that will make all the difference in the world."
MacLeay was one of the four Belles with double-digit digs, finishing the match with 11 digs to go along with one service ace.
Shelby Wilt led the team with 16 digs and added four assists, while
Brianna Sotello had 11 digs and
Alexa Johnson provided 10 digs. Johnson orchestrated the offense effectively with 33 assists and led the team to a .229 attacking percentage against the Mustangs.
Johnson now has 635 assists on the season and Blauser has 262 kills through the first 19 matches of the season. Blauser also had four block assists on Saturday and
Zoey Hanrahan and
Klohe Harrion had two block assists each. Hanrahan and Harrion also help the offense with five and three kills, respectively.
The Belles stayed clean throughout the day, finishing with a 25-15 error advantage and hitting .351 in the first set. ASU, which had struggled with errors last weekend in a pair of losses at Texas Woman's and A&M-Commerce, finished this weekend with only 26 errors in the two home-court matches.
Nicole Marzik led the Mustangs (6-15, 2-9 LSC) with seven kills and Casey Fletcher provided 18 digs from the libero position. MSU was limited to a minus .034 attacking percentage by the Belles.
Angelo State returns to action next weekend with road matches at St. Edward's and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Belles, who are 6-1 in non-conference matches this season, will take on the Heartland Conference's Hilltoppers at 5 p.m. on Friday in Austin before returning to LSC play with a 2 p.m. match next Saturday against the Javelinas.
