WICHITA FALLS – Angelo State junior Sierra Anderson scored her 11th goal of the season and the Angelo State defense recorded its 11th shutout as the Rambelles earned a 1-0 win over Midwestern State on Friday in their final Lone Star Conference game of the season.

The Rambelles (13-3-1, 6-3-1 LSC) remain in contention for a co-championship, but by virtue of Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Commerce wins on Friday, ASU will not win the outright title and will not host next week's conference tournament. ENMU and the Lions will play on Sunday in their regular-season finales and are one point back in the standings behind the Rambelles. A tie between ENMU and Commerce on Sunday would create a three-way tie for the title and the Lions would host the tournament based on goal differential. A win by either team would give that team the regular-season championship.

Along with ASU recording its 11th shutout of the season, Shantel Wittke matched the all-time program record with her ninth shutout of the season. Wittke recorded three saves for the Rambelles against the Mustangs.

"She shares this achievement with the entire defense," ASU head coach Travis McCorkle said. "I thought we figured some things out after a couple of breakaways. Shantel did her job with some good saves and then our defense stepped up to limit their chances. A good goalkeeper gives your team a chance for a win and Shantel and is doing that with great defenders helping her out."

Anderson, who has scored seven of her 11 goals in conference play, scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to give the Rambelles the win. A Wichita Falls native, Anderson also led the Rambelles with five shots with three of them being shots on goal. ASU owned a 21-10 shot advantage in the game and a 10-3 shots-on-goal advantage.

Elizabeth Rodriguez, Brianne Brown and Kathleen Keoughan each had three shots for the Rambelles, while Haley Mendel, Tiffany Dang and Loni Byers had two shots each.

"I was pleased with Tiffany and though she did a good job of making herself dangerous in the penalty area and gave herself some chances," McCorkle said. "The more she does to make herself dangerous the more chances Sierra is going to get. Haley didn't get on the stat sheet with a goal, but she played a great game. Cynthia also stepped up her performance today along with Loni."

The Rambelles will complete their regular season with a noon non-conference game on Sunday against Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Oklahoma. ENMU was a 2-1 winner over Texas Woman's on Friday and the Lions earned a 2-1 win over West Texas A&M. The two teams will meet at 2 p.m. (CT) on Sunday in Portales, New Mexico with the regular-season championship on the line.
