SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State volleyball got back on track with a sweep (25-10, 25-21, 25-21) of Midwestern State on Friday night in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
After returning from Kingsville last week with a loss, the Belles rebounded and are now 16-4 overall and 5-1 in the Lone Star Conference. The loss placed Midwestern at 5-15 on the year and 0-6 in the LSC.
"It was good for us to rebound tonight," ASU head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "We came out with the right mentality and we played well. We are still a little too inconsistent for my sanity right now. I'd like us to stay cleaner more throughout the progression of the match because we got sloppy at the end. Overall, I saw some good things from a lot of players."
The ASU attack would be led by three players with double digit kills. Mallory Blauser would tally the most for the evening with 13 kills marking it her fourteenth double-digit match this season.  Morgan Seaton would end the night with a .421 hitting percentage after totaling a season high 10 kills. Rounding out the attack leaders, Brianna Sotello's 12 kills and 18 digs was her 10th double-double of the year.
Maggi Jo Keffury would once again lead the Belles in distributing the ball with 37 assists. It is her nineteen match with over 30 assists. She would also help the defense with nine digs. Katie MacLeay led the defense with 22 giving her a total of 405 for the year. Kelly Hasbrouck would add 12 digs, her third match in double-digit digs.
ASU opened the match strong with an 11-3 run headed up by three kills from Seaton. After a small 3-0 run from the Mustangs mid set, Sotello got the Belles back on track with a kill dished out to her by MacLeay. Seaton added another kill to put the first set on the brink and an attack by MSU ended it.
In the second set the Belles would once again come out with a sizable 10-2 run which included two service aces by Blauser. Midwestern State would battle back bringing the score to within one at 20-19. A Mallory Davidson ace followed by kills from Seaton and Lynn gave ASU a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Coming out of intermission the Mustangs would try to get back into the match with an early 7-2 run. MSU would hold the lead until an unforced attack error by the Mustangs would tie the set at 17. Sotello then dropped in a kill to allow the Belles to take the lead, which they would not relinquish.  A pair of kills from Blauser would solidify the set win 25-21 and a sweep of the match.
The Belles return to the court in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center Saturday, October 10 at 2 p.m. to take on the Cameron Aggies.
"The team we are playing tomorrow is good," Waddington said. "They don't make a lot of errors. They lost tonight against Tarleton State but it doesn't mean anything. They will bounce back and will be ready to compete tomorrow. Hopefully we are mentality prepared for a tough match."
