ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Angelo State soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 1-1 draw at Adams State on Friday evening.

goal by Adams State Hope Cruz scored off a corner kick. It is the senior's 10th goal of her career."I thought we responded well with Selena's goal shortly after giving away a sloppy goal on a corner kick," McCorkle said. The Belles (0-0-1) earned multiple offensive chances and took 17 shots while limiting the Grizzlies (0-0-1) to just 11 including four in the first half. It is the second time in program history (2013) the season opener has ended in a tie.
"We had some very good scoring chances but we didn't capitalize on them," ASU head women's soccer coach
Travis McCorkle said. "It was a physical game and a game we can build on with some adjustments."
Nine total players recorded at least one shot during the match. Sierrea Anderson added to her career record of total shots with a team high five shots and now has 173 in her ASU career. The senior put three shots on goal.
Haley Mendel,
Kathleen Keoughan, Alvarez and
Tiffany Dang each took two shots each with
Ashley Exford,
Cynthia Andrews,
Elizabeth Rodriguez and
Morgan Sibson attempted one shot. Dang and Mendel each sent a shot in overtime with Dang forcing a save by Adams State's keeper Molly O'Connor.
Shantel Wittke made five saves in goal.
The Belles return to the pitch on Sunday in Las Vegas, N.M. with a 4 p.m. match with New Mexico Highlands.
