PORTALES, New Mexico – The Angelo State women's soccer team shutout Eastern New Mexico 3-0 on the road on Sunday in Portales.
The Belles (7-2-1, 3-1 LSC) recorded 10 shots while limiting the Greyhounds (3-5-1, 2-2 LSC) to just seven. It is the fifth shutout he season and the ASU defense has only allowed five goals this season.
"I'm happy with the outcome of getting a shuotout today," Angelo State head soccer coach Travis McCorkle said. "These wins are extremely improtant. Both Canyon and Portales are tough places to play and it was important for our confidence moving forward."Â
Sammy Cude earned her fifth shutout by only having to make one save. The back line of Ashley Exford, Shay Williams, Molly Warren, Callie Smith, Lauren Perry and Kylie Deel kept ENMU off the board.
The fast starts continued for the Belles as Demi Tsambasis scored inside the first 10 minutes. Morgan Sibson sent a cross towards the box and Tsambasis was able to score her ninth goal of the season in the 8th minute. It is the seventh goal ASU has scored this season in the first 15 minutes.
ASU was able to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute. Tsambasis sent a through ball to Ally Warren who was able to redirect the ball past the keeper. It is the freshman's second goal of the season and the second consecutive game she has scored.
"Ally having two goals in two games is very good," McCorkle said. "I'm really pleased with her play this weekend and hopefully she is setting a tone on how she will play the rest of the year."
The Belles added a third goal in the 89th minute. Shay Williams took a corner kick and Analise Watson connected on the kick for her first career goal.
"Analise was very determined to win the ball," McCorkle said. "When she plays like that, she is very good."
Seven different Belles took a shot with Tsambasis taking the team high of three. Watson recorded two while Exford, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Sibson, Laia Pujades and Warren had one each.
The Belles will return to the ASU Soccer Field for their final four home matches of the season. The first will be a match with LSC rival Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9th will be ASU's annual Pink Game against TWU p.m.
