Belles Lose 1-0 to TWU

DENTON, Texas – The Angelo State women's soccer team fell on the road 1-0 to Texas Woman's in Denton on Friday evening.

The Belles (10-6-1, 6-5 LSC) took 14 shots on the night while the Pioneers (9-7-1, 5-6 LSC) recorded 12. ASU finished with seven shots on goal and held TWU to just five.

"I think we made positive strides tonight in this game," Angelo State head soccer coach Travis McCorkle said. "Obviously, we are disappointed with not socring but it wasn't for a lack of work or effort. We didn't solve their free kick that led to the goal but we had a strong response and put TWU under ststained pressure immediately after the goal. We will refocus now and get ready to improve for the next game on Sunday."

The Pioneers scored the only goal of the match in the 17th minute of the match. Aryana Maride-Conro took a free kick and found Gaby Larson who headed it in for a 1-0 lead.

The Belles tried to answer in the 19th minute but Trenadey Scott's shot was saved by Samantha Jimenez. The freshman would take five shots on the night with four on goal.

Demi Tsambasis had a shot that almost evened the score in the second half but it was just high.

"Trenadey beat her player and made a good cross that Demi just missed high over the goal," McCorkle said. "We created some other pretty good chances as well."

Tsambasis led all players with six shots and Morgan Sibson, Kathleen Keoughan and Eryn Harrington each recorded one on the night. Tsambasis' lone shot on goal came early in the match. The senior took a shot in the ninth minute but was denied by Jimenez.

Angelo State will return to the pitch for the regular season finale on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce.
