Belles Defeat Western State 2-1 in Double Overtime

GUNNISON, Colorado - The Angelo State soccer team defeated Western State 2-1 in double overtime on Friday afternoon in Gunnison, Colorado.

The Belles (4-1-1) outshot the Mountaineers (2-2-1) 18-9 and 13-6 in shots on goal. ASU remains undefeated in overtime games at 1-0-1.

"We didn't play a great first half at all," Angelo State head soccer coach Travis McCorkle said. "I thought the second half was much better and the overtimes were good. We didn't allow many shots in the second half and I was pleased with the second half and overtimes."

Trenadey Scott recorded the game-winning goal in the 107th minute of double overtime. Tiffany Dang spun past a defender and beat another before finding Scott on a cross for the goal. It is the second goal of the season for the freshman.

"It was a nice goal," McCorkle said. "Tiffany had a good cross after beating her player at midfield. Trenadey was able to work and get in front of her defender. She made good run across the face of the goal and just did what we've done a thousand times in practice."

Western State took the first lead of the match with a goal from Andrea Grillo seven minutes in to the match.

Demi Tsambasis provided the equalizer in the 20th minute. The senior took a pass from Dang for her sixth goal of the season and Dang's second assists of the night. The forward has now equaled her 2015 season total in goals.

The two team's defenses were on showcase for the rest of the match. ASU took 11 shots in the second half but was unable to pull ahead until the second overtime.

Tsambasis led all player with six shots while Dang and Lauren Perry each took three. Elizabeth Rodriguez added two shots and Shay Williams, Ally Warren, Megan Allen and Scott each recorded one shot.

Sammy Cude improves to 3-1-1 with five saves.

ASU will return home for its conference opener on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
