Belles Hand SEU First LSC Loss

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University women's soccer team defeated the St. Edward's University Hilltoppers on Friday night, handing SEU its first loss in conference action.

The Belles improve to 12-5-1 overall and 8-4-1 in conference play.

In Case You Missed It:
  • In the 40th minute of the half, Kira Miller made a massive diving save to stop the Hilltoppers from getting on the board and to keep the score tied, 0-0.
  • Both teams battled hard through the first half as St. Edward's edged out the Belles on shots, 7-6.
  • The pace quickened in the second half and Trenadey Scott helped the Belles find their momentum, as she dribbled down the field to find Avery McNeme just outside the keeper's box. McNeme took one dribble inside and curved the ball into the back left corner of the net to give ASU the 1-0 lead.
  • In the 83rd minute of the game, McNeme dribbled up the field and found Ally Warren one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Warren took one dribble forward and kicked the ball to back left corner of the net to give the Belles the cushion goal, 2-0.
  • In the 87th minute, St. Edward's ended the Belles shutout on a header goal by Bella Camarata but fell short of the victory, as ASU defeated SEU, 2-1.
Coach McCorkle's Comments:
"The game was an indicator of what we're capable of. It was a tough first half and St. Ed's was all over us. We executed our game plan very well. I thought we encouraged St. Ed's to play the way we wanted in the second half and we got two very nice goals! We did well tonight and maybe this is the momentum we needed going into the LSC tournament."

Key Players:
  • McNeme led the offense with four shots, two on goal, one goal and one assist. Scott was right behind with four shots and one assist.
  • Warren had two shots with one on goal and tallied one goal for the Belles.
  • Tristen Morris, Valerie Solis, and Reagan Urbany all tallied one shot to contribute to the ASU offense.
  • In between the pipes, Miller grabbed five saves for the Belles in 90 minutes of action.
