San Angelo – The Angelo State Rams Baseball squad was dominant at the plate and surgical on the mound against Colorado School of Mines, resulting in a commanding 14-1 victory over the Orediggers.
Plenty of Cowbell
As a team, the Rams batted at a .485 clip, going 16-33. Even more importantly, Angelo State was able to capitalize at the plate with runners on base, hitting 10-21 for a .476 AVG. This number hardly waned when the Rams were given opportunities to score with a runner on base, as they would keep their foot on the pedal and execute in this situation almost 40% of the time throughout seven innings of play.
Michael Urquidi's performance was one familiar to Rams fans who have watched the El Paso native develop over the years. Proving that three truly is a lucky number, Urquidi would reach base all three times he stepped up to the plate this afternoon as he got on base by the way of two singles and a walk. He would then complete the profile of the ideal leadoff hitter, crossing home plate all three times he made his trips around the diamond. Michael would also drive in two runs of his own in the game.
Jordan Williams was a solid fixture in the Angelo State lineup as well, as the redshirt freshman would finish the game going two for three with an RBI of his own – a hard hit double that would score Urquidi from first.
Nick Novak and Nick Seginowich would both end up two for four at the plate on the day, and would combine for over 1/3 of the team's total runs driven in. Novak scratched across three of his own with two very productive singles, and Seginowich would do his damage by the way of a hard hit double and a solo homerun that may be considered a satellite at this point.
Lachlan Mayo would end the day going 2 for 3 with a double and would cross the plate as a runner once as well.
Jackson Hardy would step up to the plate today for his first official college at-bat, and definitely did not disappoint. The true freshman from Silsbee, Texas got a pitch he liked on the inside half of the plate and sent the ball screaming down the third base line for a double.
Josh Elvir was a pitcher's worst nightmare when standing in the batter's box, going a perfect three for three with five RBIs, a double, and two homeruns. The lefty from Kemah, Texas did it all offensively on the afternoon, crossing the plate three times of his own. Two of which naturally occurring from his two homeruns.
King of the Hill
As impressive as the Rams' lineup was, the Orediggers found themselves facing a 6'2 challenge from Paris, Texas of their own at the plate. Brandon Dusenberry was the only Ram pitcher to see any time on the mound tonight, and for good reason. The senior earned his first win of the season, striking out six and walking only one batter in seven full innings of work. Dusenberry would only give up four hits and a single run, holding hitters to a .174 average.
