Rams pull away to defeat Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS – The Angelo State men's basketball team used a dominant performance from the field to defeat Midwestern State 91-64 and move to 19-7 (12-5 Lone Star Conference) on the season. With the win and Texas A&M Commerce's loss to UT Permian Basin, the Rams are now in a tie for second place in the conference standings.

The Rams placed six players in double figures on the evening. Kiair Crouch was the leader with 17 points, hitting five three pointers on the contest. He also had four rebounds, four assists, and a steal. James Kirksey and Paul Williams posted 13 points. Kirksey shot 6-9 from the field and also had five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Williams made 6-8 free throws and also had a rebound and two assists. Daron Mims shot 5-10 from the field and scored 12 points on the evening. He also notched two rebounds and an assist. Ronald Bell had contributed heavily with 11 points, six rebounds, and one block. Collin Turner had his best all around game as a Ram as he had 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals while making four of his seven shots from the field.

The Rams scored six points in the last minute of the first half to blow the game open, cruising into halftime with a nineteen point lead. The final basket of the half was a fastbreak dunk by James Kirksey. After MSU closed the gap to eight points early in the second half, the Rams went on a 16-3 run to take a 21 point lead with less than ten minutes to go and put the game away for good.

The Rams shot 51 percent from the field and 41 percent from the three point line while holding the Mustangs to 37 percent and 33 percent, respectively. They also outrebounded MSU 46-24, dominating the boards once again.

The Rams will be in action again Saturday as they head to Lawton, Oklahoma to take on Cameron.
