WICHITA FALLS – The Angelo State women's basketball team used a dominant second half to defeat Midwestern State 81-62 and move to 21-4 (16-3 Lone Star Conference) on the season.
Four Belles ended the night in double figures in scoring. Maria Delgado scored 17 points on 6-10 shooting from the field, making four of six three point attempts. She also had five rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Asia Davis had 14 points and four rebounds while making 6-7 free throws. She also recorded one steal. De'Anira Moore and Dezirae Hampton both had 13 points on the evening. Moore shot 6-9 from the field in an efficient performance which included 11 rebounds, marking a double double. Hampton just missed a double double of her own with nine rebounds. She added four assists and a steal on the night. Essence Johnson was also a strong all around contributor as she finished with seven points, eight rebounds, and a team leading three steals for the contest.
The Belles got off to a slow start, trailing 14-11 after one quarter. They rallied to outscore the Mustangs 20-12 in the second quarter, taking a five point lead into halftime. By the end of the quarter, they had extended the lead to eight points, and then used a dominant fourth quarter to provide the final margin of victory, scoring 29 points.
ASU held the Mustangs to 38 percent shooting from the field and 17 percent from behind the three point line. They also outrebounded them 49-32.
The Belles will be in action again Saturday as they travel to Lawton, Oklahoma to battle Cameron.
