AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 1 Angelo State University baseball team earned the series lead over St. Edward's University on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Hilltoppers in both games by scores of 10-2 and 6-4.
The Rams improve to 19-2 on the season and in conference play.

Game 1: ASU 10, SEU 2
- A three-run inning to start the game sparked the Rams momentum in game one of the double header. Parker Bramlett was walked to lead it off and Josh Elvir followed up with a deep single through the right side to send Bramlett to third. With two outs, Aaron Walters scored Bramlett on a single to right field to give ASU the 1-0 lead. Tyler Mendoza grabbed the last hit of the inning, blasting a double to left field to score Walters and Elvir to push the ASU lead to 3-0.
- After three scoreless innings, the Rams made another run at the top of the fifth with Elvir being walked to lead off. Bradley Mathiowetz stepped into the batter's box and singled to left field to place Elvir in scoring position. Nick Seginowich blasted a three-run homer over the left center field wall to increase the Rams lead to 6-0.
- The Blue and Gold tacked on two more runs in the sixth with a leadoff single up the middle by Bramlett. The Hilltoppers loaded the bases with back to back walks on Elvir and Mathiowetz. A single down the left field line by Walters sent Elvir and Bramlett across home plate and increased the Rams lead to 9-0.
- St. Edward's ended the Rams shutout in the bottom half of the sixth with a bases loaded walk and a fielder's choice to trail 9-2.
- ASU secured the win at the top of the seventh, adding one run off a single down the right field line by Jackson Hardy to score Riley Peterson for the 10-2 victory to even the series, 1-1.
Game 2: ASU 6, SEU 4
- The Hilltoppers took the early lead in game two off a sacrifice fly to center field to jump to a 1-0 lead. SEU managed to plate one more run off a wild pitch to lead 2-0.
- At the top of the second inning, the Rams scored two runs within three extra base hits. Seginowich hit a leadoff double down the left field line and Mendoza followed suit with a one out double to score Seginowich. Mendoza stole third to advance in scoring position. Justin Lee smacked another double for the Rams to left center field to score Mendoza to tie the game at 2-2.
- The hot hitting continued as Bramlett singled down the right field line to start off the third inning. Elvir stepped into the batter's box behind Bramlett and blasted a home run over the right center field wall to give ASU the 4-2 lead.
- After a scoreless fifth inning, errors plagued the Hilltoppers' defense as they allowed the Rams to score to increase the lead 5-2. Mathiowetz contributed with a ground out to third base, allowing Elvir to score another run for ASU and lead 6-2.
- In the bottom half of the fifth, SEU managed to threaten a comeback, scoring two runs but fell short as ASU claimed the 6-4 victory and took the series lead, 2-1.

"Very proud of how we responded today. Ben and
Josh Barnett gave us good starts and guys out of the pen did their job. Offensively, we had several guys step up. The two out hits in game one by Walters and Mendoza were big. In game two, I was proud of how quick we responded after getting down early. We put ourselves in a position to win the series tomorrow. We need to come out and finish it."
Key Players:
- Seginowich, Walters, and Mendoza led the offense with three RBI a piece. Seginowich also tallied one home run, one double, and two runs while Walters scored on run. Mendoza added two doubles and two runs.
- Elvir finished the day 2-for-6 from the plate, with two RBI, one home run, and five runs scored.
- Hardy contributed to the offense with two RBI and went 2-for-3 from the batter's box.
- Mathiowetz and Lee added one RBI to the offense while Mathiowetz had one run and Lee had a double.
- Bramlett and Nick Novak round out the Ram scorers with four runs combined.
- On the mound, Ben Elder picked up his third win of the season with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work in game one.
- Josh Barnett earned the second win of the day for ASU. In 4.1 innings of work, he struck out four batters. Carson Childers came in and earned the save after 1.1 innings and one strike out.

Angelo State returns to action on Sunday, March 8 to close out the series against St. Edward's. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
