ODESSA, Texas – The Angelo State Belle volleyball team defeated the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons in three sets, sweeping the match and the series.
The Belles climb to a 2-0 overall and conference record, while UTPB falls to a 0-2 overall and conference record.

Angelo State and UTPB traded points back and forth throughout the first set with neither team able to gain any advantage over the other, until two kills from
Kailyn Gilbreath and
Sophia Berg, plus two errors from the Falcons gave Angelo State a three-point lead, 7-4. Several more kills from Gilbreath,
Nailah Gordon, and
Baleigh Allen bring the Belles lead to five over the Falcons, 11-6.
The Belles lead continued to grow even further over the Falcons, growing to eight points with several kills from Berg, Gilbreath, and Allen, along with multiple attack errors from UTPB, 20-12. UTPB attempted to make a comeback against the Belles, but a kill from Gilbreath ends the first set in favor for the Belles, 25-17.
UTPB quickly jumped to a 3-1 lead over the Blue and Gold, but the Belles tied the second set early at 3-3 against the Falcons. UTPB took the lead back and extended it to three points over the Belles, 10-7, but a kill from Allen, plus several attack errors from the Falcons, quickly tied the game again at 10-10. Multiple kills from the Belles, plus several errors from UTPB allowed Angelo State to take the lead from the Falcons, extending it to three over UTPB, 20-17.
The Falcons attempted to gain a win in the second set over the Belles, but several kills from Gilbreath and Allen brought the second set to an end, with the Belles taking the second set over the Falcons, 25-22.
The third set started slowly for both teams, neither team able to gain the advantage over the other, until two quick kills in succession from Allen and Gilbreath brought the Belles to a 5-3 lead over UTPB. Kills from Berg and freshman
Elsa Lamphere, plus several errors from the Falcons extended the Belles lead further to five, 9-5.
ASUs' lead continued to grow gradually to seven with several kills from
Grace White and many errors from the Falcons, 13-6. The Belles went on a four-point run later in the set, extending their lead to eight over UTPB, 18-11, until two quick kills in succession from the Falcons cut into their deficit by two, 18-12.
Two kills from Lamphere, plus multiple errors from the Falcons, brought the Belles within one point of taking the third set and ending the match, but an error from the Belles and a kill from the Falcons delayed the Belles victory. An attack error from the Falcons ended the match in favor of the Belles, resulting in a series sweep for ASU, 25-14.
Key Players:
- Gilbreath led the Belles offensively against the Falcons again, registering 10 kills and scoring 12 points against UTPB, grabbing three assists and two service aces as well. Gilbreath also led the Blue and Gold defensively, grabbing 17 digs for the Belles.
- Chloe Patton came in clutch on defense for Angelo State as well, registering 13 digs and five assists for the Blue and Gold.
- Lindsey Ledyard showed her skills for the Belles, registering 29 assists against the Falcons, grabbing eight digs in the process.
