McCorkle Earns 200th Career Win as Belles Down UT Tyler 2-0

SAN ANGELO – The Belles scored one goal early in the match and another one late in the match to give them a 2-0 win over UT Tyler this afternoon. The win is a milestone for head coach Travis McCorkle as it marks his 200th career win as a collegiate head coach.

"What a great team here at ASU to accomplish that milestone with!" said McCorkle.

The win is the 160th for McCorkle at Angelo State; before coming to Tom Green County, McCorkle earned 40 wins as head coach at fellow LSC institution Eastern New Mexico.

The Belles forced the issue early in the match, with a Gabby Villagrand shot earning the Belles a corner kick, their first of eight they earned on the afternoon.

The ensuing corner kick found defender Kylie Hampton, who recorded her first career assist when she headed the ball down for Villagrand, who slotted past the Patriots goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the season and her second goal in as many games.
On the match, the Belles outshot the Patriots 18-8, with five shots on goal for the Belles and four for the visitors.

The Belles could not find an equalizer despite their best efforts until the Patriots gave away a penalty to the Belles in the 81st minute; Valerie Solis stepped up and caught the Patriots' goalkeeper wrong-footed to double the Belles lead. The goal is Solis' fourth of the season, and she has 11 total goal contributions on the season.

The shutout for the Belles and goalkeeper Kira Miller is their ninth of the season, of which both marks are best in the conference.

The Belles improve to 11-2-2 on the season and 6-2-2 in conference play; on 20 points, they are currently third in the LSC standings with three matches left to play. They return to action next weekend on the road as they face second-place Texas Woman's.
