SAN ANGELO – The Belles returned to the friendly confines of Stephens Arena this evening to face rivals #25 West Texas A&M in a match that carried seeding implications for the LSC Tournament.
The Belles started slow, falling behind to the Lady Buffs 19-12 in the first set. The Belles rebounded to score 12 of the set's final 16 matches, including a 6-0 run to cap off the comeback and take the set 25-23.
Both teams were evenly matched in the second set, and with the score 16-15 in favor of the visitors, the Belles ripped off a 5-0 run to put distance between themselves and the Lady Buffs; the Belles would dominate the third set, recording 12 kills and holding West Texas to a negative attack percentage for the set.
The Belles hit .170 against the nation's third-best defense, the fourth-best mark against the Lady Buffs this season, while the .077 mark the visitors posted was the lowest they've posted in a match this season.
Elsa Lamphere led all players with 10 kills in the match, the eighth time this season the Colorado native has reached double-digits.
Delaney Fuller followed with nine kills, as well as a team-high 19 digs, and
Sophia Berg added eight kills.
Kailyn Gilbreath led the team with 18 assists, also chipping in seven kills and 16 digs.
Baleigh Allen recorded a trio of kills, digs, solo blocks and block assists;
Chloe Patton added in 17 digs and
Jaedyn Woolley assisted 12 times off the bench.
The Belles improve to 20-3 on the season and 13-1 in conference play, sitting in first place in the LSC standings. They will honor their seven seniors tomorrow afternoon against Eastern New Mexico.
