No. 3 Belles Sweep Lubbock Christian on the Road

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 3 Belles continue to show their skills and their training, defeating the Lubbock Christian Chaps in three sets and sweeping the series, 2-0.
 
The Belles move to 6-0 overall and conference record, while Lubbock Christian falls to a 3-4 overall and 2-4 conference record.
 
In Case You Missed It:
Lubbock Christian quickly jumped to an early 2-0 lead over the Belles, but with Lindsey Ledyard back to serve for Angelo State, she quickly took control and took the lead from LCU, scoring two service aces while the Chaps made several errors to bring ASU to a three-point lead, 5-2. A kill from Grace White and Kailyn Gilbreath each extended the Belles lead to four over Lubbock Christian, 8-4.
 
Lubbock Christian managed to cut their deficit to three, but another kill from Gilbreath, plus an error from the Chaps, brought ASU to a five-point lead over Lubbock Christian, 15-10. The Chaps managed to find their rhythm in the first set, scoring four unanswered points against the Belles to tie the first set up at 16-16. The Belles responded quickly however, scoring three unanswered points to take their lead back, 20-17.
 
LCU kept a level head, scoring another four unanswered points and taking a one-point lead over Angelo State, 22-21. Angelo State persevered and kept their head and focus where it mattered though, as a solo block from White ended the first set in favor of Angelo State, 25-23.
 
Ledyard kept their momentum going to start set two off, serving for six straight points and grabbing another ace, with Gilbreath adding a kill to lead the Chaps, 6-0. Lubbock Christian broke the Belles rhythm briefly, scoring four unanswered points to cut their deficit to two, 6-4. Morgan Preston managed to get the Belles going again, serving for three straight points, with Gilbreath and Elsa Lamphere both registering a kill to lead the Chaps by six once again, 10-4.
 
LCU once again retaliated by scoring four unanswered points to bring themselves within two points of the Belles, 10-8. The Chaps managed to get within one point of taking the lead from the Belles, but two rapid kills from Gilbreath, assisted by Ledyard, gave the Belles a three-point lead over the Chaps, 13-10. Preston grabbed an ace against the Chaps, and along with kills from freshman Delaney Fuller and Lamphere, the Belles lead grew to five over the Chaps, 16-11.
 
LCU cut the Belles lead again to three at 18-15, but a kill from Gilbreath and several attack errors from the Chaps brought ASU to a six-point lead once again, 21-15. The Belles and Chaps traded points back and forth for the rest of the set, the Chaps managing to cut their deficit to two, but a kill from Sophia Berg ended the second set for Angelo State as the Belles took a 2-0 set lead over Lubbock Christian, 25-22.
 
Set three started slowly for both teams, as each team traded points back and forth until the score was tied at 10-10 each. With Fuller back to serve for Angelo State, several errors from the Chaps, along with a kill from Lamphere and White each, brought the Belles to a four-point lead over Lubbock Christian, 15-11. The Chaps cut their deficit to two once again, but a kill from Gilbreath and Fuller each, along with a service ace from Gilbreath, brought ASUs' lead to five over LCU, 19-15.
 
Kills from Fuller, Lamphere, and Gilbreath, along with errors from the Chaps, brought Angelo State to 24-17 lead over Lubbock Christian. LCU managed to take the serve back from the Belles and score another point, but a quick, powerful kill from White ended the third set in favor of the Belles, 25-18.
 
Key Players:
  • Gilbreath once again led the Belles offense against the Chaps, scoring 16 points and registering 14 kills, hitting with a .375 hitting percentage against LCU. She registered one service ace, two block assists, and nine digs to finish out the night.
  • Ledyard showed her skills once again for the Belles, registering 32 assists for the Belles, along with a career high four service aces, and finishing with eight digs.
  • Chloe Patton led the Belles defensively against the Chaps, grabbing 18 digs for Angelo State. Patton finished the night with one assist.
 
Up Next:
The Belles return to the Stephens Arena as they host the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons in a two-match series in San Angelo, Texas on Tuesday, February 23 and Wednesday, February 24. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. for both games.
