AUSTIN, Texas – Facing each other for the fifth time this season, the Angelo State baseball team defeated St. Edward's 10-1 on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup at Lucian – Hamilton Field.
The Rams have won five straight games against the Hilltoppers, sweeping the season contests while improving to 28-6 overall on the season.
SEU gave away the first run of the game, walking the first two batters faced before hitting another batter to load the bases.
Nick Seginowich brought in the first run, forcing a walk before
Nicholas Novak singled to the right to give the Rams an early 2-0 lead.
The Rams extended their lead in the second inning, tallying five more runs to go up by seven. After loading the bases again,
Parker Bramlett scored on a wild pitch after reaching base with a single up the middle.
Josh Elvir brought in a run at the next at-bat, singling through the right side before stealing second base.
Aaron Walters continued his hot streak, tallying two-RBIs off a single to the right-field before coming around to score off a hit by
Jordan Williams to end the inning.
After loading the bases again with three walks, Walters finished off the scoring for the Rams in the top of the third inning, extending the lead to double digits after a bases-clearing double down the right-field line.
Aaron Munson picked up his first win of the season on the mound for Angelo State, tossing three innings of work with only one hit and three strikeouts.
Jake Morgan and
Carson Childers each pitched two innings in relief while
Mat Szabo and
Jake Rogers pitched one inning each.
The Hilltoppers broke the shutout in the bottom of the seventh inning, getting on base on a throwing error before coming around to score on a single to the right side.
Walters finished with five RBIs off two hits while Novak collected two hits and both Elvir and Hardy finished with three runs scored.
Angelo State will return to Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium this weekend as the Rams host UT Permian Basin in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
