#1 Belles Open Season with Pair of Sweeps

SAN ANGELO – The Belles kicked off day one of the 13th Annual Kathleen Brasfield Invitational with a pair of sweeps over East Central and Western Colorado, tallying 94 kills over six sets of play and hitting .311 as a team, compared to their opponent's 53 kills and an .085 attack percentage.

Both matches saw the Belles record a .375 hitting percentage in the first set, with both sets won by an identical 25-15 score line for the nation's top-ranked team.

Elsa Lamphere and Delaney Fuller led the way offensively for the Belles in match one, both burying 10 kills. Libero Chloe Patton recorded a game-high 19 digs, and Kailyn Gilbreath added a double-double with 34 assists and 12 digs, with her 34 digs totaling more than entire East Central team.

The Belles went on five different scoring runs in match two of four or more points in a row, with a dominant set one performance that included the Belles holding Western Colorado to a negative attack percentage.

Baleigh Allen recorded four of her six blocks in game two as the Belles recorded 14 blocks in match one, more than doubling their match one total of six.

Fuller led all players with 13 kills, with Gilbreath assisting 30 times and Patton dug a game-high 12 Mountaineer attacks.

Today also saw the debut of some new faces in the rotation for head coach Chuck Waddington – right side hitter Chloee Holden recorded three kills in her lone set of action; Emma LaBarge added a kill of her own; Jaedyn Woolley added in four assists in limited action while Erin Jones added an assist of her own; and Caleigh Enax recorded a service ace as well as three digs.

The Belles return to action tomorrow to close up the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational; they face Anderson (SC) at noon and close the tournament against Northwestern Oklahoma at 6 p.m.
