#22 Rambelles Drop Tight Contest on the Road to #16 Lady Buffs

CANYON, Texas – The Angelo State women's soccer team dropped their second match of the season, falling to West Texas A&M 1-0 in Canyon on Wednesday evening.

The Rambelles drop to 10-2-1 on the season and now sit 5-2-0 in Lone Star Conference play. The Lady Buffs improve to 9-1-1 on the season and 3-1-1 in conference play.

90 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • The Lady Buffs would get out of the gate quickly in the first half, registering their first two shots within the first five minutes, forcing a save out of Kira Miller.
  • Katelin Heise recorded the first shot on target for the Rambelles in the 13th minute.
  • Miller would make three more spectacular saves before the game reached the 30th minute, keeping WT off the score sheet.
  • The Belles would turn up their offensive pressure towards the end of the half, Madison Maxey turned a header wide, and Hadley Coronado fired two shots that sailed wide.
  • Miller would make one more save before the half concluded, giving her six saves in the first half of action, which is more than she has made in an entire match all season (5 saves vs DBU).
  • The second half would begin similar to the first with the Lady Buffs attacking to begin the half, forcing another save by Miller.
  • The Belles would respond and put on some pressure of their own with Cindy Rodriguez getting a shot.
  • Miller would make two more saves before finally conceding in the 80th minute after the Lady Buffs powered a free kick past the grad student.
  • Reagan Urbany would register one final shot as the Belles comeback effort would fall short.

GAME NOTES
  • Miller made a season high nine saves in the loss on the road.
  • The 17 shots and 10 shots on goal for West Texas A&M were the most the Rambelles have allowed in a single match all season.
  • This is the first match all season the Belles have been kept off the score sheet, they had scored at least one goal in each of their previous 12 matches.
  • West Texas A&M earned four corners in the match while the Belles had two.
  • Natasha Soto was shown her first yellow card of the season.

COACHES TAKE
"I thought it was a back-and-forth contest, there were moments we could have been better with the ball, that was the biggest difference for us," said Rambelles Head Coach Travis McCorkle. "We would work, win it back then give the ball away too easily. Kira was incredible in the match, WT scored on a great free kick. I thought we had chances, but we were unable to convert. We need to be better in and around the penalty area, everything is faster, the space is tighter, and our passing has struggled, leaving us wanting more. We will have some things to think about and work on, but I am confident that we will get it sorted out and be ready to go against Lubbock Christian on Wednesday."

NEXT UP
The Rambelles have this weekend off before returning to action next Wednesday at home against Lubbock Christian on Oct. 12th with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
