SAN ANGELO – Entering the final weekend of their regular season, the Angelo State volleyball team fell in straight sets to DBU Friday night inside the Junell Center. The loss is the first time the Rambelles have been bested by the Lady Patriots, having won the previous five meetings between the two teams.
With the loss, the Rambelles fall to 11-16 on the season and 7-8 in conference play.
All three sets featured the Belles jumping to early leads before being reeled in and passed by the Lady Patriots.
Marina Sanchez and Kaila Garnett paced the Belles attack with seven kills apiece, while teammate
Elsa Lamphere had six and
Grace White and
Sydney Mundkowsky both had five.
Sanchez also led the team with four blocks in the match and hit .429, not committing an error in 15 attempts.
Laney Dale assisted 15 times while Kayla Baer added 13 assists; libero Ireland Ferguson was the only Belle to reach double figures in digs, notching 13 for the match.
The Belles hold onto the eighth and final tournament place heading into the last day of the regular season; they take on UT Tyler at 2 p.m., who is coming off a five-set win over UTPB in Odessa tonight.
