OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – After suffering their first conference loss just two days ago, the Angelo State women's basketball team rebounded in a big way, defeating Oklahoma Christian 78-61 at the Eagles Nest Saturday afternoon.
The Rambelles improve to 7-2 with the victory and now sit 3-1 in Lone Star Conference play. The Eagles are still winless in the young 2022-23 season and fall to 0-8 and 0-4 in conference play.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant got things started for the Rambelles, scoring the first four points.
- Brighton Adams made a layup that put the Rambelles ahead by double digits, 16-5, with 2:31 remaining in the first.
- Madeline Stephens hit a late jumper as the Rambelles took an 18-7 lead into the second quarter.
- The Eagles went on a small run to start the second quarter, bringing the game back within seven, 23-16, with 5:37 before the half.
- McGhee-Pleasant scored four straight to extend the Rambelles lead to 29-16, those put her well into double-digits with 13 points and still 3:05 to go before half.
- Layups by Aicha Ndir and freshman Keniah Williams would see the Rambelles to the half with a 15-point lead, up 37-22.
- The Rambelles came out firing to begin the second half as Stephens and Madisen Honea were connecting from beyond the arc, brining the Rambelles lead to its largest at 26 points, 50-24.
- Briley Merket got in on the action, hitting a triple for her first points of the season.
- Points were coming from all over the place as Landry Morrow and Alexandra Bednarczyk scored down the stretch, giving the Rambelles a 64-38 advantage heading into the final frame.
- Oklahoma Christian tried to chip away at the huge deficit, bringing the Rambelles lead down to 20, 68-48 with just over five minutes to go.
- Morrow scored five points in the final five minutes as the Rambelles saw their victory over the line, besting the Eagles 78-61.
GAME STATS
- 11 different players scored for the Rambelles, the most in any game to this point this season. Nine different players scored at least five points, two finished in double figures.
- McGhee-Pleasant was the workhorse for the Rambelles offense as she continued her hot streak to begin the season, scoring a team-high 17 points.
- Morrow had her first 10-point game of the season as she also grabbed three boards and provided three assists.
- Stephens flirted with another double-double as she had nine points and eight rebounds.
- Sawyer Lloyd filled up the stat sheet as she had six points, eight assists, four rebounds, and a steal.
- The Rambelles shot 47.6 percent from the field and held OC to just 24.6 percent from the field and 1-19 from beyond the arc.
- The teams were dead even, each pulling down 41 boards in the contest.
- The Rambelles played a true team game as they had 19 assists and scored 36 points off the bench.
