Rams Sweep UAFS with 8-7 Win in Game Four


FORT SMITH, Ark. – The fifth-ranked Angelo State baseball team completed the series sweep over UAFS on Sunday, defeating the Lions 8-7 in the final game at Crowder Field.
 
With the win, the Rams improve to 6-2 overall and 6-2 in Lone Star Conference play while UAFS moves to 2-6, 2-6 LSC.
 
The Rams scored their first run in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch before Hunter Townsend hit a single through the left side to score Aaron Walters. Justin Lee added another with a groundout to third base to bring home Tayten Tredaway as ASU took an early 3-0 lead.
 
After back-to-back singles by Reese Johnson and Jackson Hardy, Jordan Williams added another run for the Rams in the second, scoring Johnson after a single to center field.
 
The Lions got their offense going in the fourth inning, scoring their first run on a double down the left field line. They added three more runs in the inning off a ground out, a sac-fly, and a solo home run to cut the lead to 5-4.
 
ASU added another run in the sixth and a run in the seventh as Lee singled to score Townsend while Jackson Hardy came home on a fielding error.
 
Down 7-4, UAFS tied the game in the seventh inning with three runs off a wild pitch, a sac-fly, and a single to right field. ASU got out of the bases loaded inning without falling behind as Jake Rogers came in for the final out, earning a strikeout.
 
The Rams regained the lead in the top of the eight as Tripp Clark led off the inning with a single. Tyler Boggs pitch ran, stealing second and third before Hardy singled to go up 8-7.
 
Rogers continued on the mound for ASU retiring three straight batters in both the eighth and ninth innings to secure the win for the Rams. Rogers improves to 3-0 on the season while throwing 2 1/3 innings with zero hits and four strikeouts.
 
Austin Beck, Hardy, and Townsend all recorded two hits in the game while Lee finished with two RBIs on the day.
 
The Rams return home next weekend as they welcome in Oklahoma Christian for a four-game series beginning on Friday, Feb. 18 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
