SAN ANGELO, Texas – Closing out the series, the 10
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team dropped game four against Texas A&M – Kingsville, falling to the Javelinas on Sunday afternoon at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the loss, the Rams split the series against TAMUK and move to 23-7 overall on the year and 21-7 in Lone Star Conference action.
TAMUK got their offense going in a hurry, scoring six runs in the first inning before adding one more in the third on a solo home run to left field.
The Rams cut into the lead in the bottom of the third, as
Aaron Walters hit a sac-fly to left field to score to score
Tyler Boggs for the first run. ASU added two more runs on a throwing error by the Javelinas to make it 7-3.
ASU had a chance to add to their total in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and one out, but a double play ended the inning.
The Javelinas stretched their lead in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on four hits including a two-RBI double to go up 12-3.
Jackson Haga pitched four innings in relief, giving up four runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Also adding some relief innings was
Carson Childers who threw 2 1/3 innings with five runs, four hits, and three strikeouts.
The Rams got a few runs back in the bottom of the frame, scoring two on groundouts by
Justin Lee and Boggs before
Justin Harris doubled to score
Tayten Tredaway.
The scoring continued for the Javelinas in the seventh, adding four runs before hitting a two-run homer in the eighth to clinch the win in eight innings.
ASU is back on the road next weekend as the Rams travel to Austin for an LSC series against St. Edward's beginning on Friday, April 1.
