SAN ANGELO, Texas – Drama continued at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium on Saturday as the 17
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team split a doubleheader against No. 23 Lubbock Christian with both teams winning in the final innings.
With the split, the Rams move to 14-5 overall and in Lone Star Conference action while LCU goes to 13-4, 11-4 LSC.
The Chaps battled back to win game one of the day, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh to win 7-6 while
Tayten Tredaway walked off in game two, scoring two runs to give ASU a 4-3 win.
GAME 1: LCU 7, ASU 6
The Rams found some offense early in game one, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning for an early lead.
Kamden Kelton singled up the middle to score two while a double by
Tyler Boggs and a single by
Jackson Hardy brought in the remaining runs.
LCU quickly answered scoring one run in the third inning off a groundout and two more in the fourth, reaching on a fielder's choice and collecting an RBI single to make it 4-3.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, tossing 6 2/3 innings while giving up 11 hits and six runs while striking out five batters.
In the fifth inning,
Justin Lee homered to bring in two more runs and give the Rams a 6-3 lead with two innings to go.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Chaps continued to swing the ball hard, hitting two home runs including a three-run shot to left-center to eventually go on to win the game.
GAME 2: ASU 4, LCU 3
In a game much different than the previous two between the Chaps and the Rams, the second game of the doubleheader began as a pitcher's duel with neither team earning a hit through the first two innings.
The Rams eventually got on the board first, scoring on a fielder's choice by
Aaron Walters to go up 1-0.
LCU tied the game in the fifth, scoring on a sacrifice fly to center field before gaining a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run single to right field.
Jake Rogers started game two, throwing 6 2/3 innings while allowing only six hits and three runs with six punchouts. Pitching in relief was
Jackson Haga who gets the win to improve to 1-1.
In the bottom half of the inning, Hardy got on base with a single before
Koby Kelton forced a walk to put two runners on with one out. Walters loaded the bases with another walk before Tredaway came away with his two-out single up the middle to score the winning runs.
The Rams and Chaps will conclude their series tomorrow at 1 p.m., as the Rams look to pick up one more win to split the series.
