Belles Tennis Returns to Winning Ways with Sweep of DBU

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's tennis team returned home and promptly returned to winning ways on Friday afternoon at the ASU Tennis Courts, sweeping DBU 7-0 in a conference match to snap the Belles' three-match losing streak entering this weekend.

The Belles got off to a strong start, clinching the doubles point through 6-0 wins at lines one and two by Ena Ovcina/Mieke Van Deventer and Ramitha Irrinki/Ayda Guler.

Despite a slow start on the singles side, the singles play was more of the same for the Belles, with five of the six matches being decided in straight sets.

Ovcina at line two and Irrinki at line five quickly won their matches before Eva Schwartz clinched the match for the Belles at line three.

The Belles improve to 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while the Lady Patriots fall to 13-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Belles are back in action tomorrow at noon to host Midwestern State.
