Austin, Texas – The Angelo State baseball team remains perfect on the road this season, sweeping the doubleheader against St. Edward's this afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field to bring their road record to 13-0 on the season.
A two-RBI single in the bottom of the first gave the hosts the early lead;
Tripp Clark halved the lead when he led off the top of the second inning with his second home run.
Koby Kelton singled in the third inning, eventually advancing to third and scoring on an
Aaron Walters sacrifice fly to even the game at 2-all.
The game stayed tied until the seventh inning;
Jackson Hardy led off the frame with a bunt single before
Justin Harris walked to put two runners on board.
With a 2-2 count,
Justin Lee singled to center field to break the deadlock; Walters would produce his second sacrifice fly of the game later in the inning to give the Rams an insurance run heading into the bottom of the seventh.
A single and an RBI double pushed a run across the plate for the Hilltoppers before
Kyle Moseley struck out two batters and forced a fly-out for the final out to secure the 4-3 win.
Moseley, who threw 2.2 innings in relief of
Jake Rogers, only allowed those two hits and one run, striking out four to pick up his first win of the season.
Game two saw both teams struggle at the plate offensively, with the Rams not recording a hit until Lee's two-out single in the sixth inning and the Hilltoppers mustering three hits the whole game against Rams starter
Aaron Munson.
Walters would lead off the seventh inning with a single before advancing on a sacrifice bunt. Batting with two outs,
Tayten Tredaway was hit by a pitch to extend the inning, and Hardy, the next batter, singled through the left side with a full count to score Walters for the first run of the game.
Clark singled up the middle on the next pitch to score Tredaway and double the Rams lead to 2-0, the final score.
Munson's first collegiate complete-game shutout sees him improve to 6-1 overall on the season. The sophomore only allowed three hits and one walk while striking out six, needing 71 pitches to go the distance.
The Rams, who are now 26-7 on the season and 24-7 in conference play, go for the series sweep tomorrow, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
