The Rams hold on to 9-8 Victory Over the Aggies

SAN ANGELO, Texas – On a windy day at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium, the 14th-ranked Angelo State baseball team held on to defeat Cameron 9-8 in game one of the series on Friday night.

The Rams improved to 33-10 overall and 31-10 in Lone Star Conference play after that win.

Jordan Williams got things going for the Rams in the first inning, hitting a double down the left-field line to score Aaron Walters for the first run of the game. ASU added four more runs in the second inning as Austin Beck singled to score Tyler Boggs before Walters hit a three-run homer to right-center to give the Rams a 5-0 lead.

The Aggies answered in the bottom of the third, hitting a two-run home run of their own to cut the lead to three.

In the fourth inning, Justin Harris hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot past the left field wall to make it 6-2.

Cameron took advantage of the wind in the fifth inning, hitting back-to-back solo home runs but a bases-loaded walk by Harris in the bottom of the inning made it 7-5 in favor of the Rams.

The Aggies took their first lead of the game in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to go up 8-7.

In the bottom half of the frame, Thomas Cain walked to get on bases before stealing second. An errant throw by the Aggies allowed Cain to take third before coming home on another error on the play to tie the game 8-8.

Harris led off the eighth inning with a triple before coming around to score on a sac-fly to right field by Justin Lee to score the game-winning run.

In the ninth, the Aggies had a runner on first before a line drive shot was hit to Harris who was able to make the snag before turning a double play to end the game.

The Rams and Aggies will be back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
