ODESSA, Texas – The 10
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of UT Permian Basin, winning 7-6 on Sunday at Roden Field.
With the win, the Rams finished a perfect 24-0 on the road while amassing an overall record of 40-10, going 38-10 in Lone Star Conference play.
Falcons jumped out ahead in the first inning, scoring two runs on an error and another on a sac-fly to go up 3-0, taking their first lead of the series.
In the third inning, the Rams collected two runs as
Aaron Walters and
Justin Lee both hit RBI singles to cut UTPB's lead to one run. In the bottom half of the inning, the Falcons got one run back, scoring on a wild pitch.
After a couple of scoreless innings, the Rams took control in the sixth inning, scoring five runs,
Jackson Hardy led the inning off with a single before coming around to score on a hit by
Austin Beck. Also scoring on the play was
Justin Harris who walked at his at-bat.
Koby Kelton followed up with a single to left field to bring home
Tyler Boggs before a throwing error scored Beck. Walters added one more run off a single to right field to score Kelton, giving the Rams a 7-4 lead.
Carson Childers earned the win at the mound, throwing five innings in relief with only one hit and six strikeouts to improve to 6-2 overall.
Price Siemering started the game for ASU, allowing four runs on four this while
Jackson Haga closed out the final winning with three hits and two runs scored.
UTPB's comeback fell just short in the ninth, scoring two runs but unable to find the tying run as Haga struck out the final batter.
The Rams will hold the top seed in the LSC tournament and will host the opening round next weekend beginning Friday, May 6 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
