Portales, N.M. – After earning their seventh clean sheet of the season, the Angelo State women's soccer team extended their shutout streak to five games after defeating Eastern New Mexico 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Portales.
The Rambelles improve to 9-0-1 on the season and 4-0-0 in Lone Star Conference play. ENMU falls to 3-6-0 and 1-3-0 in LSC play.
90 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- The Belles registered their first shot of the contest in the first minute courtesy of Katelin Heise.
- Grace Jordan and Cindy Rodriguez would claim the first shots on target for the Belles, both not testing the keeper much.
- Reagan Urbany would win a ball in the ninth minute and test the Grayhound keeper once more, to no avail.
- The Belles would take nine shots before Jordan was able to find the top left corner to pull the Blue and Gold ahead, courtesy of a Heise assist. The Grayhound's keeper got a piece of the left-footed shot but was unable to keep it out.
- Kira Miller would not have to make any saves in the first frame as a solid defensive line only allowed one shot, which was off target.
- The Belles defense would pick up right where they left off, blocking two shots in the first ten minutes of the second stanza.
- Urbany would register the first shot of the second half for the Belles in the 62nd minute, forcing another save from the ENMU goalie.
- Hannah Grady would pick up a yellow card for ENMU in the 67th minute after a harsh challenge on Belles co-captain Mia Czarnecki.
- Madison Maxey would pick up a yellow of her own in the 72nd minute, after a tug of the jersey.
- A quick counter-attack in the 79th led to the Belles best chance of the second half as Jordan had a shot blocked, and Hadley Coronado missed high.
- Miller would make her second save of the game in the 89th minute, easily collecting a free kick from the Grayhounds to secure a clean sheet.
GAME NOTES
- Jordan now has six goals on the season, already surpassing the five goals she scored in the 2021 campaign. She now ranks fifth in the LSC with her six goals and 13 points.
- Miller earned her seventh clean sheet of 2022, which leads the LSC.
- The Belles have now earned five clean sheets in a row and have not allowed a goal in 483 minutes of action.
- The five clean sheets match a streak from the 2020 season where the Belles had five clean sheets in a row to finish the season.
- The Belles tie their best start to a season, at 10 games unbeaten, now sitting at 9-0-1.
