SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team dropped their first Lone Star Conference match of the season on Friday evening inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena in four sets to fifth-ranked West Texas A&M.
The Lady Buffs took sets one and two 25-22 and 25-23 before the Rambelles fought valiantly to take set three 25-22. However, the defending national champions pulled out set four from the Belles with a 25-18 victory.
The set three the Belles won started with the Lady Buffs taking the first seven points of the set from the Belles; however, the Belles took ten of the following 11 points and 15 of the next 19 points as they held onto the lead through the remainder of the set.
Four Belles –
Evelyn Torres,
Elsa Lamphere,
Madi Parrish, and
Hannah Kinnison – recorded double-digit kills as the Belles out-killed the visitors 60-50.
Torres had 14 kills and hit .333 for the match, while Lamphere and Parrish had 12 kills each. The mark is the highest for Lamphere in LSC play this season. Kinnison chipped in 11 kills, and middles
Marina Sanchez and
Hannah Spencer had six and five kills, respectively.
Laney Dale led all players with 27 assists, while
Kayla Baer had 15 off the bench.
Libero
Caleigh Enax led all players with 24 digs, the most for the junior in LSC play this season.
Ireland Ferguson added ten digs, her most in conference play this season.
The Belles are now 14-3 on the season and 4-1 in LSC play. They close out their weekend tomorrow afternoon against Cameron, with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
