McGhee-Pleasant's Career Night Lifts Rambelles Past Bridgewater State

HILO, Hawaii - Led by a herculean performance from Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant, scoring 30 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, the Angelo State women's basketball team opened the Big Island Holiday Classic with an 88-79 victory over Bridgewater State on Friday evening inside the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
 
The Rambelles improve to 8-4 with the victory, while the Bears fell to 4-6 with the loss.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • Bridgewater State started things in the game, scoring the game's first six points.
  • A Jumper by Keniah Williams at the 2:59 marker gave the Rambelles the lead 17-15.
  • The Rambelles would be able to go on a 9-0 run to extend its lead by seven, 22-15 going into the second quarter.
  •  The Rambelles would go on a 20-0 run from the halfway marker of the first quarter until the 5:11 marker in the second quarter to extend the lead to 18, 33-15.
  • The Belles would keep the deficit by 12, 44-32 going into halftime.
  • A three-pointer by Madisen Honea would give the Rambelles a 21-point lead, the biggest of the night, 55-34 at the 7:52 mark in the third quarter.
  • A Jumper from Kylie Grassi at the 4:42 marker would give the Bears a six-point deficit, the first single-digit deficit since the beginning of the second quarter.
  • A layup with 15 seconds left by McGhee-Pleasant would give her 30 points, making it a new career high and helping the Belles defeat the Bears, 88-79.

  • McGhee-Pleasant led all scorers in the contest with a career-high 30 points on 9 of 16 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
  • Lloyd would have 19 points of her own on 8-23 shooting, pulling down seven boards, dishing out seven assists, and four steals.
  •  The Rambelles went 40 percent (33-82)  from the field, 22 percent (4-18) from behind the arc, and 72 percent (18-25) from the charity stripe. 
  • The Belles would outrebound the Bears, 55-39.
  • The blue and gold would have 46 points in the paint compared to the 28 of the Bears.
  • The Rambelles would have 25-second chance points compared to the 11 by Bridgewater State.
  • Each team would have 22 points off of turnovers.

The Rambelles will return to action tomorrow night, Dec.16th, on day two of the Big Island Holiday Classic, matching up with the host Hawaii-Hilo with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
