No. 3 Rams Take Doubleheader from Rattlers

SAN ANGELO – The third-ranked Angelo State baseball team bounced back from their loss yesterday against St. Mary's with a pair of victories over the Rattlers, taking game one 6-1 before walking off the visitors 4-3 in game two in this afternoon's doubleheader at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

Jordan Williams doubled to lead off the second inning in game one, moving to third on a sacrifice bunt and scoring on a Tyler Boggs sacrifice fly.

Williams would score on another sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, this time off the bat of Justin Harris, to double the Rams' lead.

Williams led the sixth off with a walk, and Rance Rosas would reach on a bunt single to set up Harris, whose double down the left field line doubled the Rams' lead to 4-0; a two-RBI triple by Jacob Guerrero later in the inning extended the Rams' advantage to 6-0.

Kade Bragg improved to 7-0 on the season, throwing a complete game and only allowing four hits and one unearned run while striking out seven.

The Rattlers opened the scoring in game two with an RBI single in the first inning.

The Rams would even the game in the second inning, scoring on a fielder's choice before taking the lead on a sacrifice fly the next inning.

The Rams took the lead in the fifth with a two-out rally sparked by Harris, whose single extended the inning for Resse Johnson, who tripled down the right-field line to score the go-ahead run; however, the Rattlers would tie the game back up the following inning.

A trio of walks loaded the bases for the visitors in the top of the seventh with no outs; however, Derek Klosowski came into the game and forced a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to keep the score even at 3-3.

The bottom of the frame saw singles by Kamden Kelton and Justin Harris, and a walk from pinch hitter Austin Beck loaded the bases for Johnson, who was plunked on the first pitch he saw to walk off the Rattlers.

The Rams improve to 25-4 and 23-4 in LSC play; they close out their series with the Rattlers tomorrow at 1 p.m.
