Top-Ranked Rams Down the Dustdevils 14-4 in Eight Innings

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team picked up a series win over Texas A&M International on Saturday, winning game four 14-4 in eight innings at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
The Rams improve to 33-5 overall on the year and 31-5 in Lone Star Conference action.
 
The Dustdevils struck first, scoring four runs in the second inning, recording four hits with two doubles to take the early lead.
 
ASU answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Kamden Kelton singled down the left-field line to bring home Austin Beck.
 
In the third inning, the Rams scored on an error as Thomas Cain stole second before coming around while Tripp Clark hit an RBI double to right center. Weston Valasek brought in a run on a single before scoring from third on a bunt from Tyler Boggs to take a 5-4 lead. ASU added two more runs in the inning on a double by Beck and a grounded out by Kelton to take a three-run advantage.
 
Scott Ellis earned the win to improve to 5-2 on the year after throwing five 1/3 innings without a run, giving up only two hits with three strikeouts.
 
In the fourth inning, the Rams recorded two steals as Clark took third while Jacob Guerrero scored on a steal from third.
 
Guerrero added another run in the sixth on a double to left field while scoring two runs in the seventh and adding the game-ending run in the eighth on a single to finish with four RBIs on the day.
 
The Rams tallied 12 stolen bases in the game which set a new program record for most steals in a single game, breaking the previous record of 11 set in 2005.
 
Mason Bryant closed out the game on the mound, tossing one inning with one hit and three strikeouts.
 
Guerrero led the Rams with four hits while Beck and Cain each finished with two.
 
The Rams will continue conference play on the road as they travel to Texas A&M – Kingsville for a four-game series beginning on Friday, April 14.
