SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team picked up a win in game two of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional, downing fifth-seeded Metro State – Denver 11-1 on Thursday night at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams improve the season record to 48-8 overall on the year.
The Roadrunners opened the scoring in the second inning, hitting a double to left field for an early 1-0 lead.
ASU grabbed the lead in the fourth inning as
Kamden Kelton tied the game on a sac fly before
Thomas Cain singled through the right side to score
Jackson Hardy. The Rams tacked on another run on a double steal with
Tyler Boggs crossing home.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, throwing six innings with one run on five hits to go along with seven strikeouts.
The Rams extended the lead in the sixth inning as Kelton singled down the left field line to score two runs before a groundout by
Tripp Clark added a run to give ASU a 6-1 lead.
In the seventh innings, Kelton tallied another RBI, singling to right field to bring home
Jordan Williams. Boggs brought in a run on a groundout to second base before a two-RBI single up the middle by Cain.
Kelton brought in the final run of the game on a fielder's choice to third base, scoring Williams on the play.
Mason Bryant threw one inning of relief without a hit while
Price Siemering closed out the game with two innings and no hits.
Kelton led the Rams with five RBIs while Cain brought in three runs with three hits. Hardy also finished with three hits while coming around to score three times.
The Rams will face off against UT Tyler in a best-of-three series to advance to the Super Regionals. ASU and the Patriots will play tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
