Big Blocking Effort Leads No. 15 Belles to Sweep of Lady Chaps

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team blocked Lubbock Christian 14 times at the net as they claimed a sweep of the Lady Chaps on Saturday inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena, extending their winning streak to seven matches.

The 14 blocks are the most for a team in a three-set match in the LSC this season.

In addition to their stout defense, the Belles hit .289 as a team, only committing nine errors, and held the Lady Chaps to a paltry .103 attack percentage, their lowest total in a match this season.

Three Belles – Sydney Thornton, Demi Carter, and Hannah Spencer – made up 10.5 of the Belles' 14 blocks in the match.

Carter had eight block assists, which tied the league's watermark for blocks in a three-set match this season.

Carter and Thornton had six kills each, with the latter not committing an error in nine swings for a .667 attack percentage. Spencer converted five of her nine swings for a .556 mark without a mistake.

Evelyn Torres and Madi Parrish each had 12 kills, while setter Adeline Ortman recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 14 digs.

Libero Caleigh Enax led all players with 19 digs in the match.

The Belles improve to 19-2 overall and 9-1 in LSC play. They close their road schedule next weekend as they take on St. Edward's and St. Mary's.
