SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team blocked Lubbock Christian 14 times at the net as they claimed a sweep of the Lady Chaps on Saturday inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena, extending their winning streak to seven matches.
The 14 blocks are the most for a team in a three-set match in the LSC this season.
In addition to their stout defense, the Belles hit .289 as a team, only committing nine errors, and held the Lady Chaps to a paltry .103 attack percentage, their lowest total in a match this season.
Three Belles –
Sydney Thornton,
Demi Carter, and
Hannah Spencer – made up 10.5 of the Belles' 14 blocks in the match.
Carter had eight block assists, which tied the league's watermark for blocks in a three-set match this season.
Carter and Thornton had six kills each, with the latter not committing an error in nine swings for a .667 attack percentage. Spencer converted five of her nine swings for a .556 mark without a mistake.
Evelyn Torres and
Madi Parrish each had 12 kills, while setter
Adeline Ortman recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 14 digs.
Libero
Caleigh Enax led all players with 19 digs in the match.
The Belles improve to 19-2 overall and 9-1 in LSC play. They close their road schedule next weekend as they take on St. Edward's and St. Mary's.
