SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 23
rd-ranked Angelo State baseball team completed the series sweep of the Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas on Sunday, winning 10-4 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The win moves the Rams to 30-12 on the year and 28-12 in the Lone Star Conference, only two games back of first place.
The Rams scored the opening run of the game for the first time in the series as
Tripp Clark hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning for the early advantage.
TAMUK answered back with a home run to tie the game in the second inning before the Rams brought a run in on a groundout by
Hunter Holt in the bottom half of the inning.
After the Javelinas tied the game again in the third on an RBI double, the Rams put up two runs as
Weston Valasek singled to score Clark before a wild pitch brought in
Conagher Sands.
In the fourth inning, Sands doubled to left field, scoring
Justin Harris and Holt, before Valasek grounded out to score Clark and give the Rams a 7-2 lead.
Mason Bryant started on the mound for the Rams, tossing four innings with three runs on two hits with six strikeouts.
The Javelinas cut into the lead in the fifth, scoring two runs on a single and sacrifice fly to make it a three run ball game.
In the seventh,
Kamden Kelton singled the down the left field line, scoring two runs to extend the lead back up to five.
Pitching in relief,
Austin Teel threw 2 1/3 innings with one run on one hit to earn the win and improve to 3-0.
The Rams added an insurance run in the eighth inning as
Jacob Guerrero hit a solo home run to left field for the final run.
Johnny Stacy closed the game on the mound for ASU, throwing 2 2/3 innings with only one hit and two strikeouts.
The Rams are back on the road for the final regular-season road series as they take on St. Edward's beginning on Friday, Apr. 19.
