LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 13-ranked and third-seeded Angelo State baseball team have been eliminated from the Lone Star Conference tournament as the Rams got shutout by the fourth-seeded Falcons 3-0 on Friday afternoon.
UTPB struck first in the bottom of the second inning as a lead-off triple scored on a RBI single through the right side in the ensuing at-bat.
ASU were able to put runners aboard throughout the contest, including three innings where a Ram reached scoring position. However, it would be for naught as the blue and gold finished the afternoon 0-6 at the plate in those situations.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Falcons pieced together a couple of one-out singles which forced an end to Rams' starting pitcher,
Dax Dathe, afternoon. After an at bat that included five straight fouled off pitches, UTPB batters singled up the middle and flew out to center field to score the final two runs of the ballgame.
The book closed on Dathe with him allowing all three earned runs off seven hits and two walks while striking out four in 4.1 innings of work.
Angelo State will now wait for the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, May 12, where the Rams will learn their playoff fate in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.
