Rams Down ENMU 26-20 to Begin Conference Play

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State football team opened up Lone Star Conference play with a victory on Saturday, defeating Eastern New Mexico 26-20 at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
 
With the win, the Rams improve 1-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
 
After the Rams earned a fourth-down stop on Eastern's 23-yard line, the Rams tallied the first score of the game, punching the ball in from one yard out on a run by Jayden Jones.
 
With just over a minute to go in the first quarter, the Greyhounds converted a 30-yard field goal to make it 7-3.
 
The Rams answered with a field goal of their own early in the second quarter as Bradley Larson made a 43-yard attempt.
 
ENMU tied the game with six minutes to go in the half, driving 75 yards before a one-yard run made it 10-10.
 
ASU regained the lead as Brayden Wilcox found the endzone on an 11-yard rush, set up by a 37-yard gain from Braeden Fuller to Kel Williams. Wilcox finished with a team-high 82 rushing yards, averaging 6.3 yards on 13 attempts.
 
The Greyhounds capitalized on a 57-yard pass, setting up a 29-yard field goal to make it 17-13 at the break.
 
The Rams finished with 366 total yards of offense, collecting 195 yards on the ground while the Rams held the Greyhounds to their lowest point total of the season.
 
Midway through the third quarter, the Rams extended their lead as Larson converted his second field goal, this time from 28 yards out.
 
On the following drive, Andrew Pitts picked off the Greyhounds, returning the ball to the nine-yard line. Fuller threw his first touchdown pass of the season, finding Hunter Wallis from eight yards out, earning his first career touchdown.
 
Fuller finished with 171 passing yards, throwing 14-for-23 while Williams finished with 57 receiving yards on three catches.
 
Kenton Allen recorded a team-high 13 tackles to lead ASU's defense while Stephen Woods and Eric Rascoe each added 10 tackles. The Rams have recorded two takeaways in each of the first three games of the season.
 
Eastern scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, scoring on an 11-yard run to bring the game to its final score.
 
The Rams are back on the road next week as they continue LSC action at Western New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 21.
