Rambelles Fall to ENMU 71-67

Portales, N.M. - The Angelo State women's basketball team fell to  Eastern New Mexico 71-67 inside of the Steve Loy Foundation Arena Thursday evening. 
 
The Rambelles fall to 16-6 overall and 12-4 in Lone Star Conference action. The Greyhounds improve to 14-9 overall and 9-7 in conference play. 
 
40 Minute Rundown
  • The Belles scored their first point of the contest at the 4:21 marker in the first quarter. 
  • Keniah Williams would score eight of the teams 12 points in the first quarter. 
  • Madeline Stephens would bring the Belles deficit to one, 15-14, with 9:41 remaining in the second quarter. 
  • Stephens would tie the contest,29-29, with 3:20 remaining until halftime. 
  • The Belles went into halftime trailing, 36-31. 
  • The Greyhounds went on 7-0 run to open the third quarter to give them their first double-digit lead of the contest, 48-33.
  • The Rambelles went into the final quarter of action down, 56-49.
  • Free throws by Stephens brought the Rambelles deficit to, 60-51, with 7:52 remaining in the contest.
  • Majik Esquivel knocked down a three from the corner while getting fouled, and would hit the following free throw to bring the Greyhounds lead to one, 68-67, with one miniature remaining. 
  • The Greyhounds would knock down free throws with one second left in the contest to put the game out of reach for the Rambelles.
 
Game Stats
  • Williams recorded her eighth double-double of the year scoring 20 points and gathering 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals. 
  • The Belles would have four double-digit scorers: Williams 20 points, Esquivel 13 points, Taylor Grona 12 points, and Stephens 11 points. 
  • Grona recorded her first double-digit scoring performance of her career as she would score 12 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal. 
  • The Belles shot 34 percent (25-72) from the field, 42 percent (6-14) from behind the arc, and 78 percent (11-14) from the free throw line. 
  • The Belles outrebounded the Greyhounds 42-40. 
  • The Blue and Gold also won the turnover battle 16-20.
  • There would be four lead changes in the contest.
 
Next Up
The Belles will return to action on Saturday as they take on West Texas A&M with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
