Chris Yates

Chris Yates joined the Angelo State Volleyball staff as an assistant coach in April 2024.

Yates comes to Angelo State from Chicago, Illinois, following multiple years as a high school varsity assistant at Saint Ignatius College Prep, as well as a U17 club coach at 1st Alliance Volleyball Club. During his second and final year at Ignatius, the women’s program earned its first-ever trip to the State Final Four, where they finished third. His U17 team qualified for USAVs in 2023 after winning the Windy City National Qualifier. In addition, Chris spent the 2023 season working as a remote volunteer for the University of Dayton Women’s Volleyball program, helping them with scouting and match preparation.

Yates spent two and a half years as a practice player for the University of Dayton women’s volleyball team, helping the team to two A10 conference titles and back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019. During his time at Dayton, he was a four-year member of the men’s club volleyball team, including being vice-president and president in 2019 and 2020.

Yates earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Finance concentration from the University of Dayton in May 2020, and after graduating, spent two years in the finance industry before pursuing coaching full-time.
