Final Stats (.pdf Format)

LAWTON, Okla. –
Angelo State freshman outside hitter Kaelen Valdez recorded her fifth double-double of the season helping guide the Rambelles to a 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-13) victory over Lone Star Conference foe Cameron University Friday night in Aggie Gym.

In front of a crowd of more than 500, Valdez helped lead the Rambelles to their sixth conference win as they improved to 6-1 in the Lone Star Conference and 10-10 overall. The Helotes native hit .320 in the match with 11 kills, 10 digs and three service aces. After dropping the first set to Cameron (7-13 overall, 2-5 LSC), it was Valdez's kill in the second set that sparked and Angelo State rally. The 'Belles were down 16-12 when Valdez spiked the ball over the net for the first of 10 consecutive ASU points. The Rambelles took the lead (22-16) after the 10-0 run in which they forced the Aggies into six miscues.

Despite allowing the Aggies to score, the Rambelles got the ball back on an Emily Booth kill. Booth, who tallied four kills and three total blocks in the match, gave ASU the ball leading to a Kayla Smith kill to win the second set, 25-17, and even the matches at one apiece.

Sophomore Chelsea Gibson played a big part of the ASU offense as she tallied her 12th double-digit kill performance of the year. The middle blocker out of Spring Branch notched a match-high 12 kills, hit. 381 and registered two block assists for the 'Belles. Sophomore setter Alex Woolsey paced the Rambelles' offense as she accumulated 43 assists, seven kills, hit .538 and tallied eight digs.

After a long rally in the third set, Woolsey took initiative and knocked a kill of her own to put an end to the volley. Her spike forced a Cameron timeout, but it did not deter the 'Belles as they hit .455 in the set and held the Aggies to a .094 hitting percentage. Smith, who finished the night with five kills on 10 attempts without committing an error, knocked down the final kill of the set to give the Rambelles a 25-16 victory.

Smith also tallied 10 digs, two assists and a solo block. Another key performer for Angelo State was libero Caroline Cleveland. The Abilene native registered a match-high 16 digs to lead the Rambelle defense. Cleveland helped hold Cameron to a .106 hitting percentage for the match.

With a 2-1 lead in sets, game four began as a back-and-forth affair. Smith and junior Debbie Ohl put a stop to the trading of points as they knocked down back-to-back kills to start an ASU 10-4 run. With a 16-8 lead, Cameron fought back but sophomore Alisa Meredith dug a crucial ball to keep the play alive, eventually leading to a Cameron attack error. The momentum helped Angelo State cruise to a 25-13 victory in the fourth and final set.

Cameron was led by Megan Olivarez's 11 kills, eight digs and two service aces. Jenna Risoli tallied 19 assists and five digs, while Valerie Ogle notched 14 assists and seven digs for the Aggies. Adrienne Lawson and Joanie Dubberly had 11 digs each to lead the Aggie defense.
