SAN ANGELO –
Sophomore Morgan Youngblood came off the bench for Angelo State in the Rambelles' season opener and notched a double-double to give the 'Belles their first win of the season, a 92-63 victory over Texas A&M International Thursday evening at the Junell Center. The Rambelles had four 'Belles in double figures as they gave the crowd something to look forward to in the 2010-11 season.

Youngblood paced the 'Belles (1-0) with 11 points and 10 rebounds, she also added a steal in 25 minutes of action. Freshman Giselle Aguirre led all scorers with 15 points, while senior Camille Perkins contributed 14 and sophomore Lindsey Mahone tallied 12. Sophomore Ashley James registered nine assists and zero turnovers in the win, while freshman Krysta Martinez recorded nine points, six rebounds and five blocks.

After an early basket by Texas A&M International (0-4), the Rambelles knocked down nine-consecutive points to take a 9-2 lead over the Dustdevils, forcing TAMIU to call a timeout. Following the break in action, Angelo State picked up right where it left off as Mahone collected a steal and went coast-to-coast for a lay-up and the foul. She completed the old-fashion three-point play and extend the 'Belles' lead to 10 points (12-2). After TAMUI's Christina Tristan shot a three, Perkins countered with a trey of her own to push the Rambelles' lead back up to 10 (15-5).

The Dustdevils managed to come within four points (24-20), but the 'Belles' tenacious defense subdued the threat. ASU's defense forced Texas A&M International into 14 turnovers in the first-half. Martinez came off the bench and excelled on both offense and defense for the 'Belles as she tallied seven points in the first half, including a shot from beyond the arc. The freshman guard also had a pair of blocks in the half as she stopped both a three-pointer and a jumper off the hands of the Dustdevils. With buckets by Lauren Holt, Martinez and James, the 'Belles claimed a 44-29 halftime lead.

The second half was much of the same as the 'Belles controlled the court shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, 26.1 percent from beyond the arc and 68.8 percent from the charity stripe. Aguirre had an outstanding second half as she knocked down 12 of her 15 points in the last 20 minutes. Lindsey Youngblood notched seven points for the game, all coming in the second half, while freshman Karli Kellermeier tallied seven points all on free throws.

With a 15-point advantage (53-38), Mahone scored on back-to-back possessions to push the 'Belles' lead to 17 (57-40). The Rambelles continued their offensive attack and pushed their lead to 24 (68-44) on an Aguirre free throw after a technical foul by Texas A&M International. With a more than comfortable lead, the 'Belles cruised to a 92-63 win.

The Dustdevils were led offensively by Angie Villanueva's team-best 11 points. Erika Rosas and Linda Banuelos each contributed 10 points each, while Christina Tristan and Johnna Williams added six rebounds each.

The Rambelles will return to the court Saturday, Nov. 20, when they take on St. Edward's at 6 p.m. Live stats and live video are available at AngeloSports.com.
