SAN ANGELO – Alex Woolsey needed 35 assists to reach 4,000 in her career and No. 13 Angelo State needed a win to start Lone Star Conference play.
Both happened on Friday as the Belles claimed a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) win and Woolsey finished with exactly 35 assists in the home opener at the Junell Center in front of 710 fans.
“It's cool and everything, but I'm more concerned about our team success,” said Woolsey, who was playing in her 110
th match at ASU.

Chelsea Gibson led the Belles with 10 kills and added five digs, while
Shelbi Goode and
Maddie Huth each added nine kills. Gibson is now only 11 kills from 1,000 in her career.
Shelby Wilt steadied the Belle defense against Cameron with 11 digs with
Kaelen Valdez adding nine digs and three kills to the ASU effort.
“This can set the tone for the rest of the year with the way that we played,” Woolsey said. “We worked really hard the entire match and stayed focused to get this win. We have to win these conference games and we took care of business tonight.”
The Belles (7-2, 1-0 LSC) return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Midwestern State at the Junell Center.
ASU finished with a .292 hitting percentage while limiting the Aggies to a .098 percentage. Cameron falls to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
“They played steady against us and really served tough,” ASU head coach
Chuck Waddington said. “It was good to see us adjust and overcome being out of system a lot in the first set. We started handling the ball better and I liked how we started becoming more consistent.”
