Belles Open Lone Star Conference Slate with Texas A&M-Commerce

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team opens 2014 and Lone Star Conference play on the road against Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The Belles are 6-4 overall and have won four of their last five games after starting 2-3. ASU is scoring 59.3 points per game and limiting opponents to 52.9 points per game. The Belles scoring defense is ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 1 in the LSC. The squad is forcing 17.5 turnovers per game and outrebounding teams 38.2 to 35.2 per game. 

Angelo State is 4-2 (3-0 neutral, 1-2 road) away from the Junell Center this season. The Belles have allowed 58.0 points per game while only scoring 54.3 in the three games on the road.

Hillari Adam has been the Belles leading scorer all season at 14.5 points per game. The Wall native is also tops in rebounds at 7.6. The junior is fifth in the LSC in scoring and fourth in rebounds. Adam is averaging 13.8 points in the last five games and 12.0 on the road.

Amanda Weaver leads the league in three point field-goal percentage at 49.0 and is No. 18 nationally.  The sophomore is averaging 8.8 points per game on the season but has scored 10.8 on the road.

Leah LeMaire is averaging 8.7 points on the road which is higher than her 6.8 season average. The duo of Rochelle Norris (7.0 ppg on the road) and Karli Kellermeier (8.0 ppg on the road, 6.7 rpg) are third and fourth on the team in scoring with 7.7 and 7.5 points per game on the season.

Khalisha Lee, the most recent LSC Defensive Player of the Week, recorded 5.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the Belles win over Schreiner and in an exhibition win over Incarnate Word. 

Kellermeier is tops on the team with 21 steals while Haylee Oliver is the team leader with 33 assists on the season.

Texas A&M-Commerce is 1-8 on the season and 1-2 at home. The Lions are averaging 68.6 points per game while allowing 81.5 points per game. Breanna Harris is the Lions leading scorer at 17.5 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game.

Angelo State leads the all-time series 40-22 on Texas A&M-Commerce including 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. The Belles won both matchups last season and are 6-4 in conference openers over the last 10 seasons but only 2-3 on road conference openers since 2003. Angelo State has won the last four conference openers.
