SAN ANGELO –
Sierra Anderson scored two goals and Shantel Wittke recorded her eighth shutout of the season to help lead the Angelo State soccer team to a 3-0 Lone Star Conference win over West Texas A&M on Sunday at the ASU Soccer Complex.

The Belles (12-3-1, 5-3-1 LSC), who honored Brianne Brown, Caitlyn Conaway and Brittany Martinez before the regular-season home finale for Senior Day, moved to 9-0-1 at home with the win and also earned the team's 10th shutout which establishes a new program record. ASU's win puts them in first place in the conference standings with 16 points, while ENMU and Texas A&M-Commerce have 15 points. The Rambelles have only one more LSC game remaining this season to earn points, while the Zias and Lions will each have two games next weekend.

Angelo State will finish its regular season next weekend with road games at Midwestern State on Friday before playing Southwestern Oklahoma in a non-conference game next Sunday in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The program had recorded nine shutout seasons in 2003, 2008 and 2010 for the previous team shutout record before this year's team broke it on Sunday.

A scoreless game at halftime, Anderson scored first in the 52nd minute of play off an assist from Cynthia Andrews and then scored again in the 88th minute off a cross from Haley Mendel. The goals take Anderson's season total to 10 and she now has 19 in her career at ASU. Elizabeth Rodriguez finished off the Lady Buffs by converting on a penalty kick with 23 seconds remaining in the game. The goal was the third of the season for Rodriguez, while Mendel is now tied with Tiffany Dang for the team lead with five assists.

Wittke, who is one shutout away from matching Melanie Peterson (2010) for the all-time individual shutout record, made two saves against WT on a day where the Rambelle defense limited the Lady Buffs to only five shots with strong defensive play from Conaway, Ashley Exford, Dakota Briseno and Chloe Contreras.

ASU owned a 19-5 shot advantage and also had nine shots on goal. Anderson led the team with eight shots, while Brown had three with two being on goal. Conaway, Kathleen Keoughan, Andrews, Contreras, Loni Byers, Selena Alvarez and Dang each had one shot against WT. Anderson has scored six of her 10 goals this season in conference play and Sunday's two-goal game was the third time this season she has scored twice in a game. Wittke has five shutouts in conference play and a 0.75 goals against average.

The Rambelles completed the home portion of their 2014 scheduled unblemished with the 9-0-1 record and outscored their opponents 30-3 at home this season. Anderson led the team with seven goals at the ASU Soccer Complex, while Byers and Mendel each have four home goals on their resume.
