SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team limited Texas A&M-Kingsville to 17 first half points on the way to a 63-47 win at Stephens Arena at the Junell Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles (11-8, 5-4 LSC) held the Javelinas (7-11, 2-6 LSC) to 30.3-percent shooting including only 18.5-percent in the first half. ASU hit 41.0-percent from the field and tied a season high with nine 3-pointers.
The game started out with a quick 9-3 run by the Belles that saw
Hillari Adam hit a three pointer. Â
Tatiana Haynes sparked a 12-3 run with a three pointer of her own. ASU hit five of their nine three's in the first half.
Up 30-15 at the at the 5:54 mark of the first half, ASU outscored Texas A&M-Kingsville 7-2 with Haynes scoring five of the seven points.
The Belles were able to force nine turnovers and score nine points and added 14 points in the paint for the 37-17 first half advantage.
Texas A&M-Kingsville outscored the Belles in the second half 30-26 but never mounted a big charge to close the gap. Michelle Roswell scored all eight of her points in the second half.
The Belles out rebounded the Javelinas 39-37 and scored 19 points off 19 TAMUK turnovers. Â
Haynes finished with a season-high 16 points with 12 points coming from behind the arc.
Karli Kellermeier recorded her first double-double of the season with a season-high 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Rochelle Norris added 10 points. A total of seven Belles scored in the win.
Lauren Jay led the Javelinas with 10 points.
The Belles will hit the road on Wednesday to face West Texas A&M at 5:30 in Canyon.Â
