SAN ANGLEO, Texas – The Angelo State volleyball team hits the road for the last pair of regular season matches against Cameron on Friday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. and then Midwestern State on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
Coming off of a senior day sweep last Friday, the Belles are currently sitting at 26-5 on the season with a 12-2 Lone Star Conference record and are 14-5 on the road. On Friday ASU will face Cameron, who is fresh off of a conference win against Texas A&M – Commerce. The Aggies are currently sitting at 16-7 on the year with a 7-7 LSC record.
ASU will then move on to face Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. The Mustangs will be looking to rebound from two straight conference losses. The Mustangs are 6-23 overall and 0-14 in the LSC. ASU volleyball head coach Chuck Waddington is 12-0 against the Cameron Aggies and 13-1 against the Midwestern State Mustangs.
Leading the ASU attack will be this weeks LSC offensive player of the week,Mallory Blauser, who has assisted the Belles to a LSC-best 1,645 total kills and a 14.56 kills per set average to date and she is currently second in the conference and first on ASU with a 4.13 kills per set average. This past week, she led the Belles offensively with a 5.25 kills per set average dropping in 42 kills. The junior also averaged a .262 hitting percentage for the week marking a .325 clip against Texas A&M-Kingsville, and a .222 clip against Texas Woman's. In the November 3 match against Texas Woman's, she fired in a season high 26 kills. Defensively, she also added four total blocks bringing her season total to 42.0.
Abbie Lynn is another offensive asset that the Belles will look to utilize. She marked 11 kills in each of ASU's last two matches and has hit double-digits in eight of the last nine matches. The sophomore also chalked up an outstanding .440 clip against Texas A&M – Kingsville last week.
Distributing the ball for the Belles, Maggi Jo Keffury chalked up 90 assists last week which averaged a stellar 11.25 assist per set. The senior remains the assist leader in the LSC with 1,323 assist this season and an 11.92 assist per set average. With 2,742 career assist she is just 143 assists away from taking over the sixth spot in the ASU record book for all-time assists. Keffury also assisted the Belles defensive efforts contributing a team second 31 digs and a block assist.
The Belles defense will be anchored by senior Katie MacLeay and junior Brianna Sotello. Coming off of two double-digit dig matches, MacLeay is currently the dig leader in the LSC and for the Belles with 590 digs. The libero has marked 26 matches this year with double–digit digs this season and has solidified herself in the ASU history books with the second most digs in ASU history with 1,740. She has also been an asset to the Belles from the service line dropping in a team leading 22 service aces.
Sotello has been a force on both sides of the ball for Angelo State this season. Marking 31 digs for a 3.88 dig per set average in last week's competitions, she tallied a team high four total blocks averaging .50 blocks per set. This aided ASU in holding last week's opponents to a combined .090 clip. She is currently second on the squad with 370 total kills on the year and third with 54 total blocks. The sophomore outside hitter continues to aid the Belles in all facets of the game as she remains in the top three of every statistical category for the squad. Offensively, she averaged .25 service aces per set contributing an ace in each of the Belles matches and tallied 22 total kills.
Providing further depth for the Belles will be Morgan Seaton, Kelly Hasbrouck, and Micheala Sifuentes. Seaton has chalked up a team leading 62 total blocks on the season, and offensively she has accrued 154 kills on the year. Sifuentes contributed 13 digs over the last two matches and Hasbrouck added nine to her numbers.
