SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 24 Angelo State volleyball team will look to continue its eight game winning streak on the road against the Javelinas of Texas A&M – Kingsville on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
The Belles will be carrying a nine game win streak with an overall record of 15-3 into Friday's matchup. They enter the match on top of the Lone Star Conference with an undefeated 4-0 record. The team is 55-10 with a .846 win percentage all time over the Javelinas and 10-1 under the direction of head coach Chuck Waddington. The Belles are 8-3 away from home this season.
With a record of 8-7 on the year, TAMUK is 1-3 in the LCS. The Javelinas are entering Friday's match fresh off a road sweep of St. Mary's.
The Belles enter the weekend leading NCAA DII in three categories. ASU leads in total team kills (923), total team assist (872), and total team digs (1219) after 64 sets played. They are second in the conference in hitting percentage, with a .235 average and have held opponents to a .144 clip. The Belles are averaging 14.4 kills per set, 13.6 assist per set, and 19.0 digs per set.
The ASU attack will be led Mallory Blauser, Brianna Sotello, Abbie Lynn and Zoey Hanrahan. Blauser, who leads the team and the conference with 241 total kills, is currently averaging a 3.95 kills per set. Sotello is a close second on the squad with 218 total kills and a kill per set average of 3.52. She leads the team in the double-doubles on the year with eight.
Lynn, a sophomore, tallied 10 kills with a .364 hitting percentage against conference rival West Texas A&M last week and haas a .251 hitting percentage on the season. Rounding off the attack is middle blocker Hanrahan, who has made a solid impact for the Belles. She leads the team 51 blocks while also contributing 147 kills and a .341 hitting percentage.
Distributing the ball for the Belles, Maggi Jo Keffury leads the team and the LCS with 721 assists. Her 11.63 assist per set is second in the conference. The senior is second on the team with six double-doubles.
Conference player of the week, senior Katie MacLeay heads up the ASU defense with a conference and NCAA DII leading 366 total digs on the year. Her 5.81 digs per set places her nearly a full dig per set ahead of second place in the conference. MacLeay's stellar performance last week of 53 digs and a 5.89 digs per set, helped to stifle the opposition's attack to a combined hitting percentage of .095.
Providing further depth for ASU will be several key players including Morgan Seaton, Kelly Hasbrouck, and newcomer Micheala Sifuentes. Seaton tallied 10 kills last week while Hasbrouck (17) and Sifuentes (18) supported defensive efforts with double digit digs.
