SAN ANGELO – The No. 10 nationally ranked Angelo State volleyball team will host Cameron on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m. before celebrating its senior class as it takes on Midwestern State on Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m.
The Belles (25-2, 15-1 LSC) which are coming off a pair of sweeps this passed Tuesday, sit on top of the Lone Star Conference rankings with a three match lead. With another pair of victories this weekend Angelo State would clinch the regular season conference championship for the eighth time in program history ('83, '84, '85, '89, '91, '92, '12). It will also be searching to defend its undefeated 12-0 home record as it plays its final two regular season home matches of 2016. Â The Belles offense continues to lead the LSC with a team hitting percentage of .257, while its defense heads the conference with the most digs per set (18.18).
ASU's last match up with the Aggies resulted in a sweep which increased the Belles' all-time series lead to 30-11. Cameron will enter Friday night's completion with a 3-22 overall record and a 1-15 record in conference play. The Aggies will be seeking to rebound from a 3-1 home loss to Texas A&M – Commerce.
Looking to break a five match losing streak, Midwestern State will roll into San Angelo on Saturday after a Friday road match with LSC No.2 Tarleton State. The Mustangs, currently 11-17, 5-11 LSC, were swept earlier this season by the Belles. ASU leads the all-time series 30-9 between the two teams.
Prior to Saturday's match with Midwestern State, the Belles will honor its graduating class. This year's honorees will include Mallory Blauser, Zoey Hanrahan, Marinda Killeen and Kelly Hasbrouck. Blauser has been an integral part of the Belles offensive success over the past three years. An AVCA All-American selection in 2015, she sits fifth all-time in the ASU record books with 1,297 career kills. During her three-year tenure with the Belles, Blauser has led the team in kills every year. With 173 total career blocks, the outside hitter is only 33 away from etching her name in the record books in that category as well. She has contributed 492 digs to ASU's defensive efforts as well. In 2015 she was also selected to the AVCA All-Region team and to both the All-LSC tournament Team and Academic Team.
"Mallory [Blauser] has established herself as one of the best players in the country this year and it is because of all the hard work she has put in these last 3 years," commented ASU Head Coach Chuck Waddington. "When your best players are your hardest workers, great things happen. This season is proof of that."Â
Having led the Belles with 99 total blocks in 2014, Hanrahan completes her term with 165 total blocks in 187 total sets played. The middle blocker assisted the ASU attack throughout her career with 435 kills and was selected to the 2014 All-LSC Tournament Team.
"Zoey [Hanrahan] was a major part of our success as a sophomore and junior in the middle," added Waddington. "Her athleticism and fast arm swing made her one of the top middles in the conference. I'm proud of her for sticking with us this season despite not being able to play."
Hasbrouck and Killeen will round out the players to be honored. Selected to the 2015 LSC All-Academic team, Hasbrouck has tallied 358 digs in 236 sets played during her career at ASU. She also aided the Belles offense with 38 career aces. Killeen has been a vocal leader for Angelo State volleyball over her tenure. She has played in 18 sets during her two years with the team.
"Kelly [Hasbrouck] is one of our best all around players," continued Waddington. "She can pass, set, defend and is a heck of a beach player. She's also one of our toughest servers and her ability to fill multiple roles makes her a vital part of our program. Marinda [Killeen] is one of our fastest players on the court and also quite versatile being able to set for us but also play solid defense. She competes hard for us every day in the gym and always does it with a smile."
Helping to lead the offensive attack in this weekend's   matches along with Blauser will be Brianna Sotello and Abbie Lynn. Sotello is second on the squad with 271 kills on the season. She is averaging 3.22 kills per set and is maintaining a .220 thus far. Defensively, the junior she has tallied a team second 303 total digs with an average of 3.60 per set. Lynn is third on the Belles in kills (205) and is averaging 2.28 kills per set. She has also contributed a team fourth 47 blocks to the ASU defense.
Anchoring the team's defense will be Mallory Davidson and Morgan Seaton. Davidson has dominated on the defensive side of the ball as she has turned in 10 consecutive matches with double-figure digs. The sophomore has worked her way into the team lead with 324 digs and an average of 3.72 digs per set. A force along the net for ASU, Seaton leads the squad with 86 total blocks on the season.  She has also excelled offensively, as she is second in the LSC with a .339 clip for the season. The Big Spring native has also marked a team fourth 180 kills in 2016.
Meghan Parker will continue to dish out the rock for the Belles. The freshman is currently sitting with in the top 15 nationally and first in the LSC with 11.53 assist per set. She has already etched her name in the ASU record books as she has taken over the No. 10 slot with 1015 career assist. The setter has also played a large role for the Belles defense as she has racked up a team fifth 201 digs on the season.
Also providing great support for Angelo State has been Tulani Titley, Leiyona Young and Micheala Sifuentes. Titley has recorded 15 total blocks over the last five matches. She has a total of 56 blocks on the season which places her third on the squad. She is also fifth in the conference averaging 1.00 blocks per set. Young is fifth on the on the team with 43 total blocks and is averaging 0.90 blocks per set. Finally, Sifuentes has recorded 11 matches with double-figure digs this season and is marking an average of 3.02 digs per set.
Both of ASU's matches this weekend along with the senior ceremony will be shown live in high definition on RamTV (Suddenlink Channel 6 & HD 106).
